摘要

Growing up among the vast open spaces, forests and rugged coastline of New Zealand, the transition to the smaller-scale landscapes of south-east England could seem somewhat deflating. But every place has characteristics that give it value, and for Penshurst Place's head gardener, Cory Furness, the delight of working in the UK is its wealth of history. And he has found a place steeped in history at the ancestral home and garden of the Sidney fam-ily in Kent. The earliest records for the 0.4ha gardensare from 1346 and, while some changes have inevitably taken place over the centuries, many of the original features and the overarching style remain.
