Britain's pot manufacturers and distributors are in choppy waters. Not only is the cost of plastic dramatically rising because of oil prices and increasing competition, but recent times have seen legislation adding to the burdens of UK growers, whichhas affected pot sales in the process. Nursery consultant John Adlam believes the sector's woes have been brewing for some time: "In terms of pot counts, the sector is selling more than in previous years, but profitability is not looking good." he stresses. "After the last recession the price of plants was cut to increase sales, but the market has never really recovered its value.
