Notable for its winter colour and interest, Viburnum consists of over 150 species of evergreen and deciduous shrubs. The different varieties can provide colour throughout the year and are suitable for a range of locations. Viburnum are hardy, tolerant of most soil types and resistant to pests and diseases. The plants will also tolerate most locations apart from very shady areas, although they do prefer a sunny position. In addition, Viburnum are very versatile and can be used in a variety of ways -in borders, as specimen plants, in containers, against a wall or fence, and the evergreen varieties can be trained into a standard or hedging plant. They can also make a good partner for other winter-flowering plants, such as spring bulbs or Erica and Calluna.
