If London's Olympic Park, the largest new urban park for decades, gives a view of state-of-the-art green space design, then biodiversity is a pretty high priority within that. The site's managers aim to bring people closer to otters, voles, lizards and snakes in this once forlorn-looking post-industrial area. According to Natural England chief executive Helen Phillips, the 45ha park "has the potential to set new standards for the ways in which urban design can embrace the natural world, and it is highly encouraging to see the progress being made through the creation of new habitat areas".
