Now is the perfect time of year to entice customers with the striking blooms of these evergreen shrubs. The distinctive bowl- or cup-shaped flowers of Kalmia in spring and early summer make it a popular choice for gardeners, particularly as there aremany distinctive patterns and colours to choose from. A member of the Ericaceae family, Kalmia is a genus of acid-loving evergreen shrub species orginating from North America and Cuba. It includes K. angustifoliai rubra Award of Garden Merit (AGM); K. polifolia, which prefers wet, acid, bog habitats; and K. latifolia AGM, which thrives on dry, sandy soils.
