Last week, government body the Competition Commission (CC) produced the provisional findings of its long-awaited report into the role of supermarkets. According to the CC, the report could radically change the relationship between supermarkets and their suppliers and lead to a fairer deal for growers. The report, entitled Market Investigation into the Supply of Groceries in the UK, was commissioned 18 months ago. It found that the supermarkets provide good value to consumers and encourage innovation from suppliers. But it also revealed that there are serious problems.
