"I grow begonias in our tropical garden as they give such a variety of exuberant foliage with so many mouthwatering choices. They also seem to have a highly mysterious air when grown outside. "They are also useful because, being shade-loving, you cantuck them underneath other plants. And they make lovely pot specimens. "We lift them out of the ground before the first frosts in autumn and keep them at 10°C either under glass or inside the house, but they need to be kept warm all winter. They don't like drafts or cold and they hate being soaking wet, so are not as easy to grow as some people might think. Outside we don't grow them in acidic soil but grow many without a problem.
