When plant sales struggle, so does the plant labels market, and the major players in this specialist printing area of horticulture come under pressure to innovate in order to stay one step ahead of the competition. The trend for customers requesting ever-larger labels continues. Floramedia UK managing director Phil Griffiths says: "The sizes of labels for things such as bedding are necessarily small, but when you talk about specimen retail plants, particularly in the 30-50 range, we are increasinglybeing asked to supply larger labels." Whether or not the plant has an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) the client wants to get a large, colourful picture in position, along with the plant's name, planting and growing instructions, company logo and, of course, the barcode.
