The Oval Cricket Ground's living screen' has exceeded expectations after 18 months. Gavin McEwan reports. Weddle Landscape Design (WLD) specialises in finding technical solutions to tricky landscape problems and had worked with Miller on several previous occasions. Principal Mike Browell says: "Our role was to make the thing work in terms of the nuts and bolts." The planning decision was a close-run thing, he says. "There were a lot of doubters who said that because it hadn't been done before, it couldn't be done here. They were worried about the effect of the wind, of pollution, of the likelihood the plants would harbour vermin, that they wouldn't provide sufficient cover. Many were expert horticulturists and landscapers --our peers awhich does make you question yourself."
