Growers need to act on waste exemptions: The new waste regulations will take effect in a few weeks but growers are ill-prepared, reports Jack Shamash

On 15 May a series of new regulations comes into force, governingthe disposal of agricultural waste. The changes will set strict limits on how waste can be handled. Unfortunately, many growers so far appear to be simply ignoring the new laws. On mostfarms there are three main ways of getting rid of waste. Growers can bury it, put it on the farm dump or burn it. However, in future, none of these will be allowed - at least not without specific permission from the Environment Agency.
