Mow the grass and everyone sees a difference. It's shorter. It's heater. It looks manicured. But aerate or scarify the grass and what do you see? Only if you look closely do you notice the holes or slits in the ground. Get down on your hands and knees and you can find clean earth between the grass plants. Unfortunately, shrinking budgets mean many local authorities have to prioritise turf maintenance tasks. And all too often it is aeration and scarification that lose out to the work with more visualimpact.
