Which stock to specify - container-grown, bare-root or rootballed? When Suffolk-based nursery and retail firm Notcutts pulled out of field-grown tree production last autumn with the loss of 11 jobs, it looked like a victim of the onward march of container-grown trees. But advocates of other growing formats say these still have a place in the market. Here, we look at the arguments for and against each method.
