Every temperate-climate gardener has done that anxious pace around the garden, searching around soggy bits of last year's perennials for signs of new growth. Rather than suggest you opt for dwarf junipers and the other blobby plants listed under "winter interest" in garden catalogs, I'd like to introduce you to a plant that changes dramatically throughout the cold months and provides something to gloat over on those sullen winter walks: winter arum (Arum italicum).
