摘要

Tom Cox says he and his wife, Evelyn, started their garden "as a sort of Noahs ark" for conifers. His interest in trees dates to his childhood, when he enjoyed walks in the forest with his father. A career in the military took him around the world andopened his eyes to diverse plants. When he and Evelyn settled in Canton, Ga., Tom began to focus on conifers for their winter interest, but he soon found there were few options available for Southeast gardeners. In 1990, Tom began building what is now one of the largest collections of conifers (at the species level) in the United States. Known internationally, the Cox Arboretum and Gardens represents the conifers gardeners, can grow, even in the Southeast—and what love and persistence can do.
