Strategic and financial aspects of restructuring Katowice steelworks -- attempt of systematization

The article presents strategig and financial aspects of Katowice steelworks restructurization since the beginning of transformation of Polish economy up to now. Analyzed time has been devided into five main periods and in each of them different restructuring concepts have been applied. Internal restructuring was implemented initially, then unsuccessful privatization processes i.e. negotiations with Sidmar and British Steel and finally incorporation of Katowice steelworks to Polish Steelworks Organization (PS). A thesis was made that one of the main reasons of problems experienced by Katowice steelworks was - apart from the wrong assortment structure - inappriopriate structure of funds which influenced very negative the Company's ability to compete effectively on the steel market. These two factors determined the kind and nature of restructuring actions that have been applied.
