Lenalidomide: Behcet Syndrome

Behcet syndrome is a chronic, relapsing-multisystem vasculitis that primarily affects the oral and genital mucosa. According to international criteria for the diagnosis of this condition, the major component is recurrent oral ulcer-ation. Although genital ulcers and skin manifestations may commonly occur, ocular changes are the most important cause of morbidity. Treatment is focused on the resolution of clinical symptoms and includes the use of topical and systemic agents (eg, colchicine, dap-sone, thalidomide) to control exacerbation of oral and genital ulcers. Severe cases may require immunosuppressive agents.Thalidomide has been used successfully in the treatment of Behcet syndrome but may be limited as a therapeutic option in patients with neuropathy.
