13 Coal Mining Projects of Coal India Ltd. Awaiting Environmental Clearance

Kolkata: A total of 13 coal mining projects of Coal India Ltd. are pending for approval with the Ministry of Environment andForests. This includes 6 new projects and 6 projects for expansion. They are awaiting environmental clearance for varying durations, under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification 2006. These projects have not beenaccorded environmental clearance as on date due to non-submissionof complete information in their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - Environmental ManagementPlan (EMP) Reports, inadequate informationon critical environmental parameters, non-compliance of the procedures of the Environmental ImpactAssessment (EIA) Notification 2006 and Circulars of the Ministry, etc. by Coal India companies.
