Roadable aircraft: Terrafugia expands flying car vision to include VTOL

Terrafugia Inc. (Woburn, Mass.), the developer of the composites-intensive Transition street-legal airplane, an-nounced on May 6 its vision for the future of personal transportation. Building on its experience with the Transition program, Terrafugia has begun feasibility studies for a four-seat, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) plug-in hybrid electric flying car, the TF-X (see artist's conception, above). Incorporating state-of-the-art intelligent systems, fly-by-wire controls and other currently available technology, the TF-X, says Terrafugia.will further increase the level of safety, simplicity and convenience of personal aviation.
