Some years ago while having lunch with Arthur Birch at ANU, I noted I had read Sir Robert Robinsons book Memoirs of a minor prophet: 70 years of organic chemistry (1976). The book describes Robinsons 10-year association with Birch at Oxford, especially their work on steroids and biosynthesis in plants. Arthur tritely commented that the book had likely been completed by Robinsons wife following his death. He added with a glint in his eye, 'I suggest that it was she that inserted 'minor' into the title.'
