Anniversaries of beginning and discovery

One of the strolls I took during my summer break was along the Bushland Circuit Trail of Yarra Bend Park, near Melbourne's Studley Park Boathouse. Apparently, it was a favoured place for medical scientist and biologist the late Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet to indulge his interest in natural history, which began with a childhood beetle collection. Born in Traralgon, Victoria (incidentally, the town in which I grew up), Burnet was Director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne from 1944 to 1966. In 1999, the centenary of Burnet's birth, Parks Victoria and the Victorian Government dedicated the then-new Yarra Bend circuit to him.
