Science in Popular Fiction was one of the most interesting and exciting courses I studied last semester at ANU. A new course run by the Centre for Public Awareness of Science, it examined the impact of fiction on people's perception and understanding of science - an area of science communication that has not been well researched and studied. One piece of assessment was to create a folio of scholarly writings related to this domain. I decided to design a lesson plan that uses fiction to teach science or aspects of it in the classroom. I chose the movies Erin Brockovich for a Year 12 audience and Rubber for a Year 6 audience.
