摘要

A major objective of this work is the design of applicators using microwave antennas for hyperthermia therapy in order to treat cancerous diseases. We have suggested a few antennas that can improve the performance of interstitial applicators for microwave hyperthermia. To get the effective temperature distribution during the microwave therapy, first the parameters of applicator are varied to reach the matching of the characteristic impedance in the body. Electrical performance of the applicator is determined by both the degree of the impedance matching and the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution in the surrounding tissue. In case of the array with 4 applicators, a SAR contour line of 1-gram average peak SAR value which has 100W/kg nearly equals the goal of therapy area. The results presented through this study for the optimization of applicators with the proposed antenna can forecast exactly the SAR, temperature distribution, and the treatment size, and contribute to the research of microwave applicator designs for the effective hyperthermia therapy.
