It was indeed fitting that the first RAO national event to follow Australia Day was the 15th meeting of the Professors and Heads of Chemistry Departments (PHODs)Conference which was held at University House,ANU,Canberra,27-28 January.The RACI is,of course,the body representing the professional chemists in Australia and the genesis of that training is in our universities.PHODs is a major input to our Board and I would also encourage our leading members from outside the university sector to attend PHODs,at least from time to time-it is a wonderful opportunity to keep up with the issues facing the academic community.
