The resolution or lack of resolution to ethical dilemmas can directly impact a patient's mental, emotional, and physical status in the home care or hospice setting. Stress, anger and discord related to unresolved dilemmas can impact the patient, family, the caregiver, and the organization. While the negative effects of unresolved dilemmas can present a major challenge in adult care, it can be even more detrimental when there is discord between patient and family in caring for a child. Understanding how some of these ethical dilemmas occur and how they can be resolved fosters more comprehensive care planning and successful outcomes.
