Innovation: Academic acumen or passionate persistence?

Thanks so much for being curious about this column and wanting to read further than the title! Could it be that there is a wee bit of the innovation spirit in you? The theory of innovation talks about "disruption" as being a cause that spawn innovation.1 With very little stretch of the imagination, one can regard the federal action being taken in relationship to health care policy in the United States as being truly disruptive. The disruption is major for we see large hospital systems revising the way they do business, making decisions firmly rooted in economic outcomes. Change brings expected and unexpected results.
