Developing a Maritime Transportation and Port Operations Education and Research Program in the US - Experiences and Challenges

摘要

The paper presents an integrated effort in developing a Maritime Transportation and Port Operations education and research program in the US. The interdisciplinary character of the maritime transportation related education is emphasized. The program is being developed in cooperation with the industry and in response to the industry needs. Moreover, developing education and research collaborative efforts between academic institutions located in different areas of the globe can better capture the international character of maritime transportation and provide better education to the current and prospective employees of the maritime industry.
