Ballistic, holistic nurses: Developing ourselves as healers

While attending the American Holistic Nurses Association annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky, last summer, I had dinner with some dear friends at Joe's Crab Shack, constructed on stilts down by the Ohio River. A lively and fun place, the wait staff members are constantly singing and dancing and making the guests do all kinds of embarrassing things. Of course, my friends informed our waitress that I had received the "Holistic Nurse of the Year" award. She smiled and proceeded to put a grass hula skirt on me and then climbed on top of a chair and loudly announced to the crowd that the "Ballistic Nurse of the Year" would now dance for everyone!
