摘要

Ultrasonic testing is the most widely used volumetric NDT technique which is being developed continuously. The advancements in ultrasonics has created the opportunity to replace radiography in many applications. Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) testing overcomes the limitation of conventional ultrasonic testing by its advantages like permanent record and reliable sizing of defect. A weld can be inspected just by making a single scan parallel to weld and its integrity can be evaluated immediately. The defect detection and sizing capability of TOFD is studied in this paper. To understand the advantage of TOFD over conventional UT and Radiography, samples were tested by these techniques, and the results are compared and their capabilities are evaluated.
