Unravelling environmental enigmas:forensic analysis in the DEC

Environmental forensics is a relatively new and complex field requiring a multidisciplinary scientific approach.The NSW DEC has a specialist forensic unit that identifies unknown substances and matches samples in the environment to suspect source samples.Here we provide some examples of recent cases and discuss the need for scientific rigour.
