In the last 5 years, the association between Chlamydophila psittaci (Cp) infection and marginal zone lymphoma of the ocular adnexa (OAML) has been rapidly and convincingly supported by several lines of evidence that go far beyond the original detection of bacterial DNA or proteins in lymphoma tissues. In fact, it has been shown that Cp infecting OAML patients is viable and can be cultured in vitro under appropriate growth conditions [1]. More importantly, OAML patients can benefit from eradicating antibiotic therapy, even after several lines of unsuccessful treatment [2].
