When dairy farmers are asked for a single memory of 2012, they almost unanimously respond "drought stress." Accordingly, the USDA stated that the spring and summer drought of 2012 will be remembered as one of the "worst agricultural calamities" in theUnited States.Even though drought stress occurred in Virginia, its effects on dry matter yield and nutritional composition of corn for silage varied depending on the region. The table summarizes the whole plant dry matter yields of eight corn hybrids tested for yieldand quality in two regions (Southern Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley) during 2012.
