THE Net Merit index published by USDA is changed as needed to account for economic shifts in our industry or when new genetic information needs to be included. The most recent such change took place with the January 2010 genetic evaluations, a changetimed to coincide with a new genetic base. Dairy producers can look at the changes that occur as indicators of trends in the industry.
