Garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important pod vegetable grown under the Ranchi and Chotanagpur plateau for its tender pod/fresh consumption/frozen/processed vegetable. Pea cultivation in the plateau dominates the cropping pattern accounting 30-35 per cent of total area in vegetable crop. Commercially grown mid-season variety Ajad Pea and Bounville are susceptible to powdery mildew disease, which is one of the important disease, it causes heavy losses to the grower. Several efforts were made towards the identification of a stable source of resistance by research workers (Dev and Rastogi, 1995 : Narshighani and Tiwari, 1995 and Thakur et al. 1996) in India. The pathogen survives in the form of cleistothecea on the host residues and contributes towards depicting maximum pathogenic diversity in plateau belt of Chotanagpur.
