摘要

The productivity level of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) needs improvement by evolving high yielding genotypes, which depends on the availability of variability for yield and its component traits in the populations. Mutation and hybridization methods practised so far in sesame have brought forth only a limited progress, because the variability generated through these techniques is limited owing to the presence of undesirable genetic linkages. Hybridization in conjunction with mutation has been known to produce enlarged variability through breakage of these linkage blocks (Sohoo et al., 1994). In the present study, an attempt was made to know the relative efficiency of mutation, hybridization and combination of both in generating transgressive variation so as to adopt effective selection for yield improvement in sesame.
