Effect of irrigation and mulching practices on growth parameters and yield of greengram

摘要

The main constraint in the cultivation of greengram during summer season is limited availability of irrigation water. Optimum irrigation scheduling as well as moisture conservation practices like mulching play an important role in enhancing the productivity of greengram. Hence experiments have been conducted to find out the effect or irrigation and mulching practices on the growth parameters and yield of greengram. The filed experiment was conducted during February - April '98 and April-July '98 atAnnamalai University Experimental Farm, Annamalainagar. The experiment was laidout in split-plot design with three replications. The soil was clay loam with a pH of 7.6, available N 204.8, P_2O_5 22.3 and K_2 381.0 kg ha~(-1). The main plot treatments comprised of three irrigation treatments viz., 0.4., 0.6 and 0.8 IW/CPE ratios and five mulching practices viz., control, coirpith mulch at two cm thickness, Eichhornia mulch at 10 cm thickness, maize stalk mulch at five cm thickness and sugarcane trash mulch at 10 cm thickness were assigned to subplots. The depth of irrigation water fixed as 50 cm at each irrigation. The irrigation schedule was based on climatological approach.
