Influence of planting methods and nitrogen on physiological parameters in sugarcane

摘要

Sugarcane requires warm humid climate for its growth and productivity. Being a vegetatively propagated crop, the seed material accounted for 10-12 percent of the total cane production. Even though such a huge quantity of seed material is planted, theproductivity depends on final cane population and single cane weight. Babbi Reddy et al (1986) reported higher productivity of bud chip seedlings owing to enhanced tillering besides saving of seed material. Recently developed poly-bag method planting provided solution for high tillering, more yield and high quality (Williams, 1993). Yadav and Sharma (1980) indicated earlier, the significant correlation of dry weight of plant with cane yield (r =0.7359*). Hence, the present investigation was undertakento study the effect of chip bud -seedling planted crop on dry matter accumulation and crop growth rate in sugarcane.
