Study on stand establishment techniques in lowland irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Transplanting of rice seelings is an age old practice and in recent years, non-availability of labourers for transplanting at appropriate time leads to the reduction in rice yield. This method is also laborious, time consuming and causes drudgery towomenfolk. Hence, alternative method is to be found to overcome the problems encountered in transplanting. Direct seeding and throwing of seedlings under puddled condition are the viable alternative establishment techniques. Hence, a study was carried out to assess the practical feasibility of these methods in terms of yield and economic returns in comparison with transplanting.
