Effective teaching, leaving no room for 'false' concepts, happens one step at a time, from known to unknown. We know that the periodic table contains approximately 80 stable elements, although many have a number of stable isotopes. Metals conduct electricity and have low ionisation potentials. Non-metals are to the upper right of the periodic table, have high ionisation potentials and are poor conductors of electricity Most elements combine chemically to produce an infinite range of molecules.Qualitative analysis identifies components present, but for quantitative analysis we can extend this diagram to include methods suitable for precise amounts.
