摘要

Scientists commonly complain that science doesn't get a fair go in the media; either important things are not published or they are trivialised, or they are wrong, or sensationalised, or... you name it. But that claim is becoming harder to sustain, as the observant will have noticed during the past five and a half years since the Australian Science Media Centre (AusSMC) came into being. Modelled on the British Science Media Centre, the Australian version was the brainchild of Baroness Professor Susan Greenfield during her term as South Australia's Thinker in Residence. Baroness Greenfield reasoned that, since the UK version (also her initiative) was having a profound impact on the coverage of science by the UK media, an Australian counterpart might do the same here.
