GENOMIC SIRES PROVIDE YEAR END BONUS

The December genetic evaluation release did not yield any new proven super sires for the breeding industry but the genomic proven sires continue to set new highs for genetic level. At the top of the 100 TPI list there was only one new bull in the top20. The last bull to make the December Top 100 list had a TPI of 1910 only a few points higher than the lowest bull in August. So the turnover in proven sires has not been very great. However, the evaluations of new genomic sires have continued to rise.There are two sires over 2500 TPI with a top of 2621 TPI. Additionally we gained on the August run that had eight sires over 2400 TPI to now having 18 sires over 2400 TPI. The last sire to make the Top 100 genomic sires is over 70 points higher than thelowest sire in August. The genomic sires dominate the genetic rankings with 565 genomic sires that would qualify for the Top 100 list if they had progeny information. There are 207 genomic sires higher than the highest proven sire at 2217 TPI. These highgenetic rankings have caused a major shifUn the buying of semen with more and more sales going to the genomic chart toppers. In August the number of young genomic bulls available for sale passed the number of proven sires. This trend has continued as now there are over 800 genomic sires to choose from with only about 600 proven sires to buy.
