Strolling through the barns at World Dairy Expo, Harrisburg, or Louisville visitors and fellow exhibitors often make a mental list of "must-see" strings across the fairgrounds. A group of cattle that is starting to show up on these lists is those under the care of Craig Walton and Emily Thornburg. With some very successful runs on the show circuit in the recent past, Jersey, Holstein and Ayrshire fanatics alike know a walk past this string will likely include old tanbark favorites, and often some fresh new talent ready for the spotlight. Craig Walton was born and raised on his family's Holstein farm in Carlisle, PA, operating under the Tower-Vue pre-fix. As a small child, Craig was notorious for running out of the house in just his diapers to try tohelp Dad in the barn. Starting like many other breeders throughout the industry, Craig's first time in the show ring was in the kiddie calf class at the local county fair. These early experiences sparked and strengthened his interest in pursuing his passion in the dairy industry as a cattle fitter. He was able to travel nationwide and internationally working with show strings. Emily Thornburg was born and raised with her family's Ayrshire herd, Tri-Line Farm. Although she wasn't quite energetic enoughto be sprinting from the house in her diapers, you could usually find Emily wrapped up in blankets between some cows in the tie-stall barn.
