Angioplasty for CTO should be applied in patients having serious angina despite full antianginal treatment, in patients with hibernating myocardium in whom reperfusion will lead to an improvement in local and total left ventricular contractility and prevent further left ventricular remodeling, or in patients in whom the restoration of blood flow can aid in the development and provision of collateral circulation toward the contralateral artery in case of its later occlusion .
