Colin's contribution to our knowledge of the British Pleistocene avifauna was, by his own admission, patchy. He did not set out at any stage to carry out a comprehensive review of available materials, though he was always willing to look over collections if a particular site was of interest to other.s His publications were suually very brief, often no more than faunal lists, but he did make a number of very interesting and important observations.
