Professor Stephen Pyne FRACI CChem from the School of Chemistry at the" University of Wollongong has won the 2012 A.J. Birch Medal for excellence in organic chemical research for his significant contributions to research, governance and training in the field. The medal is the premier award of the Organic Chemistry Division. Pyne obtained a BSc(Hons) degree from the University of Adelaide and a PhD degree in organic chemistry from the Australian National University in Canberra in 1979. After postdoctoral fellowships at Purdue and Harvard Universitys he took up a lectureship position at the University of WolLongong in 1985.
