At 6.45 am on 1 April I was playing the lazy retiree,lying abed listening to Radio National's(RN)Breakfast Show while my wife donned her executive image and sallied forth to corporate life in the city.The first day of April used to be the day when you could rely on the media to slip in one or two believable April Fool stories.This time it seemed to be about garbage,a subject not to be taken seriously that morning because the garbos had come the previous day in our street,with both wheelie bins being emptied into one of those purpose-built trucks which reverse perilously down our narrow back lane.
