Japan's National Institute for Materials Science has developed a new kind of "superplastic" ceramic which stretches like metal in high temperature. A recent article published in the British science journal Nature says that the new ceramic developed by the team of Kim Byung Nam and his colleagues at the Tsukuba, Ibaraki-based research institute is of "great technological interest for the shape-forming of engineering materials." In addition to these engineering applications, the new ceramic is linked to large-scale production of complex materials.
