Alan Moore was born in melbourne and educated at Scotch College and the University of Melbourne where he completed a science degree majoring in metallurgy and chemistry.He joined the CSIR Lubricants and Bearings Section on 8 December 1941,just two days prior to his 21st birthday and,as he often recalled,the day following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour which brought the USA into World War II.
