Commercial store cattle producer, Keith Bamlet, is devising a plan to get more Hereford blood on to his farm. Although he regularly attends his local markets and frequently meets up with neighbouring dairy farmers, he believes the Hereford cross heifer of dairy herd origin is an increasingly rare commodity. "I find it's becoming very difficult to source white faced black Herefords," he says."You will find half a dozen or so at the market which are often the right colour, but frequently they're not the right shape as they've been bred from Holstein cows."
