Government green-lights Primary Authority expansion

THE government is set to expand the Primary Authority (PA) scheme to cover single-site firms. The scheme will be extended to take in franchised businesses and groups of companies and will allow trade bodies to work with lead authorities to set enforcement guidance covering their members. The PA scheme, which is operated by the Local Better Regulation Office, currently allows businesses with premises in more than one local authority (LA) area to receive "assured advice" on compliance with health and safety, product safety and trading standards regulation from a single authority.
