Toppling graphite plates killed delivery driver

A carbon parts manufacturer has been ordered to pay ?136,000 after a lorry driver was crushed to death at its site by boxes containing heavy graphite plates. Ahmet Yakar was hit by the boxes, each weighing up to a quarter of a tonne, while unloading at Morganite Electrical Carbon's yard in Swansea in July 2011. Swansea Crown Court was told that Yakar, a Turkish national who did not speak English, had no site induction when he arrived and was reluctant to open up the curtained sides of his lorry when asked by a forklift driver.
